fishheads & hypocrisy (tw: gore, death)
there is dried blood on your fingertips; caked
underneath cheeto dust out from packeted flaming rubber:
tires burnt and skinned and broken. these streets are
marred with welted anarchy, bleating into saccharine pathos.
greens shoved to the side, cherry picked off
your aunt’s father’s jubilee. hera’s fishing rod
extending crustaceans dangling above moss-encrusted
ponds; weeds strangled among ripple effects.
agape, optics sunken into moonlit shadows:
pavilion retracted, autonomy into structured ptolemy;
i wrap this corpse around a febrile toenail and
at last, this burial seeks comfort in anonymity.
author’s note: this is an ekphrastic piece, inspired by francisco goya’s ‘still life with golden
beam’-
